How Calm Is Made (Upside Down, Patiently)

dried lavender hanging upside down

After harvesting our lavender, it needs to be dried. We dry our harvested lavender bundles by hanging them upside down, and letting the buds and stems dry for at least two weeks before removing the buds from the stems.

Hanging the bundles upside down lets gravity do the work of slowly straightening the stems, while keeping good airflow around the buds, which aids the process. Critically, gravity also pulls the lavender oil into the buds themselves, enhancing their fragrance.

During this time we…wait. Naturally drying the lavender this way takes several weeks, and is absolutely worth it.

After the lavender bundles have fully dried, the buds are sifted and used to create our lavender eye masks, lavender sachets, and other items.
